It is hard to believe that another year is almost come and gone. This week we will spend time giving thanks for all that we have been blessed with this past year and, really, all of our lives. President Abraham Lincoln saw the need many years ago to set aside a day for all of us to be thankful and I am thankful he did. I am also thankful that it has lasted as a national holiday for all these years. Thanksgiving is much more than “turkey day” .
We all get busy. We all fight the day in and day out’s of life. We all neglect, daily, the need to give thanks. Please take the time to be thankful.
As I write this, I have learned that my 95 year old grandfather has just passed away after many months in frail health. I am thankful for him and his always positive attitude that he passed my way. I am thankful for the memories that hopefully will never fade. I am thankful for the hope that I will see him again.
There is so much more to Thanksgiving. It is so much more than the turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce(yuck), smashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (yuck, again), pumpkin pie, parades, football, naps – all of which are good…. Thanksgiving Day is a day of thanks that is set aside to be mindful and thankful for everything.
I am thankful for you. You have allowed me, in some form, to be a part of your life and I am thankful for that and hope that I can be the help and encouragement you need.
I am thankful for one thing again this year – I am thankful I can be thankful everyday and I do not have to wait till the fourth Thursday of November.
What about you – what are you thankful for?
