Recently, I was listening to the radio and the sports announcer was interviewing MLB all-star and Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann. The catcher it seems had been struggling at the plate and needed some help in his batting. So, who did reach out to? Yep, his coach – his dad. You see, his dad is his baseball coach and has coached him for years. He could have, and maybe he did, turned to any of the coaches on the Braves for assistance, but Brian went to the one who could help.
Many people have coaches. There are weight coaches, executive coaches, sports coaches, spiritual coaches and the list goes on and on. You might be amazed at who uses a coach in their life.
How about Oprah Winfrey. Not only has she had a coach for many years, she now boasts of being a coach. Weight management was a problem that Oprah had shared with America for many years. By hiring her coach, Bob Greene, her weight problems began to change.
Did you know that golfing Tiger Woods has a golf coach? This one is hard to imagine. As good as Tiger is he has a coach!! For years his coach was his father. Even now his coach is there to help him continue what he does best and help correct those things that he needs help on.
Having a career crisis? A career coach can help assist his/her clients with making changes in their careers.
We all can use a coach, but have you ever thought about a financial coach?
As a financial coach, I see many people who could have, and should have, used a financial coach in the last few years. Many people have no idea how to really manage their money. Bringing a coach into their life is exactly what many people are in need of.
Others seek the direction they need, but only after they are so far in the hole it is almost impossible to climb out. Many wait until they are up against foreclosure or, even worse, bankruptcy to seek help. Hiring a financial coach early can prevent the financial devastation that many people run into.
Having a financial coach helps you focus on the importance of managing your finances. Successful financial management is at least 80% behavior management. Just like the coach that helps change the golf habits of Tiger or the batting habits of Brian McCann, a financial coach helps his clients change their financial habits to maximize their potential to manage what they have.
A financial coach will help teach you how to live on less than you make, how to manage your monthly spending, how to save for emergencies and for the future. Coaches can help you learn how to invest and how to diversify.
Most of the time the stumbling block is the perceived inability to afford a financial coach. The reality is that an effective coach is worth his weight in gold. By making positive early changes in your financial lives, you can pay for a coach in no time and reap the benefits for years to come.
It is never too late to take advantage of the benefits of a financial coach. What are you waiting on?
