One of my clients was talking to me recently about their money saving habits back when they were in high school. \u00a0We laughed about some of the things we did and reminisced about the peer pressure and the fact that we got they attention of others around us.<\/p>\n
I found myself going back there too. \u00a0From the time I started working, part-time, I remember being able to buy my own school lunch every day. \u00a0In fact, I had enough money to buy two lunches if I liked what was being served that day (before they had a buffet in the school cafeteria). \u00a0Probably not a good idea to buy two, but I had my own income then and I could do it.<\/p>\n
Additionally, I was able to buy my own clothes. \u00a0Do you know how expensive clothes are? \u00a0Especially for a guy who is working part-time and buying two lunches.<\/p>\n
The truth is, once I had my drivers license, I made a trip to the big city to go shopping. \u00a0I wound up at Sears and they had a “killer deal” on these jeans. \u00a0So, managing my money, I bought four pair of these jeans. \u00a0Remember, this is the very late 70’s and early 80’s and these jeans were the flare bottoms with stitched designs down that flair. \u00a0I still remember the jeans!<\/p>\n
For the people I went to school with, they thought I only had one pair of jeans – they all looked alike! \u00a0They likely thought I never washed my clothes! \u00a0Thinking back now, I remember some of the looks, but I also remember a young guy (much younger then) managing his income while trying to be somewhat independent.<\/p>\n
You see, it really does not matter what others see or think. \u00a0What really matters is how you are managing your own economy.<\/p>\n
