This past Friday I shared with you that it was our 10th anniversary of the day we decided to change from our financial mismanagement and to get on a plan that would allow us out of our mess and turn our future around. I ended that piece (click here to read it) with, “Unfortunately, we did not know on that Saturday morning at that campground that Monday morning was looming……” It was that Monday morning that changed everything within our financial picture.
I wrote about this same Monday a few years ago (read it here) and nothing has really changed since that blog post. It was, truly, the greatest day in our financial lives.
That Monday morning, just 24 hours after our decision, I went to work and was promptly laid off. There were many affected that day, but I did not see it coming at all. After a few hours of sulking, I finally realized that we now, more than ever, needed a plan.
Small note of information here – they gave me a two weeks severance check! Yep, that was sure going to last a long time. It sure was nice to know that after three years of service I was worth that two week check.
Fortunately unemployment was received and allow us to survive, but survive is all we did.
All of our needs were met that three month period. One of those needs I never realized was that we needed to learn to live differently. We did and we continued after the income started coming back in three months later.
It was that lesson that made this day, November 17, 2003, the greatest day in my financial life and it showed us, my family, that we can make if past Monday. So can you…
