I have taken a little bit of a break over the past few weeks from writing, but now it is time to get back into it.  It has been a tough summer.  Yes, it is hot and the dog days are here, but I am talking about things in my family.

This tough summer has been tough beacuse of all that has been happening.  In the last few weeks, my wife and I have had one daughter graduate college, one daughter gradute high school, and the same college graduate daughter get married.  All of that in just a few weeks.

As a result, my time for writing has been scaled back.  Now it is time to get back in the saddle.

As for the college graduate, she is doing fine.  She has been hired by the local school district and will be a fourth grade teacher when school starts in a few weeks.  Ironically, she will be working at the same elementary school she started school in sixteen years ago when we moved here.

As for the high school graduate, she will be attending college here in a few weeks.  She will be building on her music skills in pursuit of a music degree.

And the bride, well it is all done.  They are married and settling into their new home.  One thing I do not worry about with them is their finances.  They have a sound direction on how to manage their money.

So, while I thought the rest of summer would be easy, now my wife and I have to see where we can start cutting the budget…..

To quote that patriotic American from Cincinnati, Ohio – Earl Pitts, “WAKE UP AMERICA!”

For decades now we have been hearing, seeing, and feeling the truth that we cannot continue on the same borrowing path we are on until there will be a time to “pay the piper”.  That payday was, really, years ago and we yet continue on the treacherous path of more borrowing thinking it will fix all of our problems.  What we are watching play out on on TV screens each day now is a group of financial misfits who are more concerned about keeping their jobs than making tough, immediate financial decisions that will help and be painful to many.

It is unbeleiveable!  Although we are talking about more zeros, the crisis, as it is being called, is no different than what many families are experiencing in their own financial situations – personal and small business.  You CANNOT continue to borrow your way out of a financial mess.  There comes a time when hard choices have to be made.  Those who make the tough decisions recover.

I do understand the predicament that our leaders are in if they were to do what is right.  First, it will be painful.  Some in this country are really going to feel the pain of cutting government spending.  That, in turn, will lead to the second predicament in that many politicians (so called leaders) may lose their job, their long held political office, and their ability to continue to just SPEND and drive this country farther into debt!!!

Enough already.  Enough of the political showmanship.  Make some tough choices, make some people mad, cut the spending, and lets get this economy moving again.

We are taxed enough already.  We do not need new income to fix the problem.  The only new income needed is for people to get back to work and start paying taxes again.  This economy can be fixed by the people who spend money – you and I.  It will come back faster and more powerful when the government lowers our tax rates (and cuts spending) while you and I get back to properly managing our personal finances.

And finally, NO I am not running for office.  I just wish someone who gets it would stand up and do the right thing….
